“The opening is so powerful. The ending had me in tears. So impressive throughout seeing how these people, citizens of a country few have ever heard of, basically led a McKinsey level consulting project that is so far reaching and integrated - feels like the only country that is united behind preparing for the future.”

The story

We tell the story of Dominica, a small island uniquely positioned in the direct middle of the Caribbean crest. With one side directly facing the Atlantic and one side towards the Caribbean Sea, it is in the vulnerable path of hurricanes. This reality has been true for centuries, but with climate change bringing about more intense storms, drought, and heavier rainfall, the island's vulnerability has been exacerbated. The island stands as a living testament to the frontlines of climate change.

This reality hit home when Hurricane Maria struck in 2017, leaving Dominica with 90% of its roofs destroyed, 64 people dead, and an overwhelming 226% of GDP lost. This disaster shook the nation, but in response, Dominica, led by its Prime Minister and other leaders, set an ambitious goal: to be the most climate-resilient nation in the world. This level of ambition exemplifies the proactive measures that are needed worldwide to counter the rapid and dramatic effects of climate change. Yet, few nations so far have taken this mission as seriously as Dominica.

With no blueprint on how to achieve resilience, the country created their own roadmap and have diligently been moving the plan forward. Their self-created, holistic vision for adaptation makes Dominica a unique and powerful model for the rest of the world. The intersection of the past and the future is really at the heart of the climate crisis, and our film highlights how these paths weave together, revealing what it means to set a vision for the future based on hope and optimism.

Our film explores their self-created roadmap towards resilience and illuminates the interweaving paths of the past and future in this critical global issue. The island's unique challenges, from its mountainous landscape to the legacy of colonialism still very present today, are carefully explored to paint a comprehensive picture of their journey towards resilience.

Our vision for this film extends beyond storytelling. We aim to amplify the voices of those working tirelessly on climate resilience and adaptation. We hope to activate the climate finance community to provide resources and support for the resilience- building plan. We are at a critical juncture for tangible action on climate change, and fostering optimism for the challenging task at hand. This story meets that need with a portrait of human resilience and an example of action-oriented leadership.
